I believe CREE does produce green LEDS for traffic lights, but the LA Times article discussed "green LEDs made with indium gallium nitride", not SiC. I don't know if CREE makes indium gallium nitride LEDs, does anyone here know?

CREE does indeed produce green for traffic lights. For the last two years, they've had them on display at CREE annual meetings.
