Jim:
While inventories fell, sales fell much faster, leaving a key measure of inventory bloat higher.

Until I see some signs that warehouses are moving some turns of inventory rather than growing cobwebs, market is going to show no signs of life.
Newark Star Ledger did piece on oversized mountain of containers at Port Newark, the most ever on record, recently. They took attitude that it obstructs view of NYC from NJ Turnpike. I see it as sign of glowing slowdown of trade with Asia. Anyone flying in or out of EWR easily view this as a sign that we have slowed our buying of foreign goods and surely need a weaker dollar to spur exports. I am firm believer that you don't have to look too hard to see good and/or bad signs in US economy.
I am still amazed that residential real estate values still trends upwards as economy and job growth and wages are stalling.
