For a 7 stage pipeline? Don't be so sure. And it's certainly a lot less pathetic than 400MHZ on .18 copper w/o SOI was.

There are some very well informed people (scumbria) who thought 1.7GHZ from a 20-26 stage pipeline was pathetic.

The main thing here is that one stepping about doubled the frequency.

We don't expect AMD to go from 1.4GHZ to 2.8GHZ from one week to the next the way Motorola did, but you asked for an indication of SOI having an effect, and I think that was a rather profound one.
