Let me brag a little on my son, Poet. And then please tell me all about your graduation.

My son as you know was in special education until last year. When I forced them to give my son the STAR test in second grade I was astounded to see he got no more than 5th percentile for any area. In most areas he got 0 questions right. Of course they didn't assess him in all areas. I don't know why. They were mandated to do it, and he was there every day. I lobbied furiously to get my son into regular education at that point. And against everyone's objections I got him switched over.

Well- I think I told you he did really well in class. But NOW I have his STAR report. I got it today. Now bear in mind we weren't even concentrating on academics last year. We were trying to work on the social aspects of his development. And of course he was working hard on his Clarinet and at his physical therapy- which he goes to 3 days a week. SO even with not working extra hard at school (we never did homework, for example, because I and his teacher thought it would simply be more than he could handle) he got 60th percentile in spelling! He got 52nd percentile in Language, 36th in reading comprehension, 32nd in total mathematics. Now these might not seem great to you (and compared to my older daughter's 90's across the board) but considering he came from 0's! 0's!!!!!!!!! I am so proud of him. And he was really thrilled. We went into the test with some trepidation- after all it's a timed test and he took it without any modification that would prevent the scaling of his scores. His vision, as you may recall, is severely compromised in his left eye- although we are working on it.

Anyway- I am one supremely happy mom today.
