Might even make this worth considering for digital audio applications in which better floating point capability is needed. The athlon performs better than Intel in this application.

Sigh....Only when running old code. On new code the Athlon is left in the dust. Why is this so hard to comprehend?

If you want to buy a new computer to run old code then be my guest.

Brew - Re: ". The athlon performs better than Intel in this application. I'd like the performance, but have always been worried about reliability. At this kind of price, might be worth it. "

Good idea - you can now afford TWO of the AThWipers since they dropped another $3 overnight !!

Use the second one for a spare when the first one fries its brains.

Brewmaster, the Athlon is fine ( have been running 2 of them for over a year 24/7 ). The chipset is more important. Stay clear of Via chipsets if you want to use a Soundblaster live. For an economical solution I recommend a board with the Sis730. For a bit more and DDR try the new sis735 based chipset.
