>>>When will sideline money reenter? Is there sideline money? mike <<<

Three things will change all of this.. One....Jacob takes his cash hoard and moves AMAT up five points in one hour.

Two:...I certain poster takes you off ignore and apologizes for rude behavior.

Three...Tito cancels the Yo-Yo methods of trading AMAT and stays long.

No big hurry on any of these....:)

Regards, Jerome

re: When will sideline money reenter?

IMO, we will have to see solid evidence of a rebound in business conditions. I say "evidence", as opposed to "hope". We are now seeing the death of the third tech rally based on hope of a return of earnings 6 months in the future. Those bear rallies were in mid-2000, January 2001, and April 2001. The "buy-the-dippers" are about exhausted now, IMO. Hope will not be enough, we will need to see orders, firming prices, credit availability, a new killer app that excites consumers, etc. Specifically, for semi-equips, we need to see an upturn in bookings (not just a flat-line at trough levels).

I think the above will happen sometime in 2002. I'm betting the Nas and the SOX make no upward progress till at least next January. I'm betting we don't see that upturn in semi-equip bookings until January at the earliest. Tax-loss selling, by itself, is going to kill any rallies till then.

Disclosure: as I've said many times, I am (this time) deliberately waiting for solid evidence of an upturn, knowing this means I will probably miss the bottom (if I haven't already).
