p.s. Memory throughput BS like Sandra mean nothing also. You will NEVER transfer 3.2GB of data over the bus with existing desktop software. Think about it. Where is this 3.2GB coming from ? What medium can feed a 3.2GB bus? To further make my point, if an app needs a 3.2GB bus they are doing something wrong."

Charles, the 3.2GHz spec is per second. There has to be a time factor in the spec or it has no meaning. Of course the transfers go in smaller chunks and shorter periods but you need a metric to compare. That's the point.

Constantine, Re: "All the comparos I've seen show a 1.4 Athlon4 ( 1.2 Oc'ed to 1.4 ) really handing it to the 1.8 P4."

Thanks for the response. Have you seen this review, yet, which offers a comparison between overclocked CPUs (I know it's mostly games, but this is for lack of a better review)?

firingsquad.gamers.com

I see the 1.8GHz both scoring slightly better or slightly worst than the 1.2GHz Athlon MP overclocked to 1.4GHz. It certainly isn't getting it's you-know-what handed to it. The 2.0GHz Pentium 4, which is the 1.8GHz CPU overclocked, doesn't just offer parity, it wins in most benchmarks.

Of course, this is not to prove that one CPU is better than the other. As you say, as long as they are within 10% of each other, the comparison can be made. This is more in response to those people that consider the Pentium 4 to be a dog. It's obvious that it keeps up nicely, even with the Athlon processors that need to be overclocked to be competitive.
