How anyone can say that the economic data looks good in the sense that there is no inflation is beyond me. Sure, the labor markets are stabilizing. But the core rate of the CPI was up .2% from recessionary levels. If the economy recovers in 2002, the CPI core rate of inflation will also rise dramatically from these levels. This will put pressure on the Fed to raise rates at the beginning of an economic recovery. The alternative is to put up with higher inflation. But that means a much higher POG from current levels.
