09:06 ET CIENA Corp (CIEN) 28.12: -- Update -- In terms of market segmentation -- Long-haul market opportunity will be flat to slightly down in 2002; also expects long haul to be down in Q4 vs Q3; CIEN expects to maintain core switching market leadership, also expects market for core switching to "almost double" in 2002 vs 2001 (core director could be as much as 25-35% of revs or more); believes metro transport and metro switching could be as much as 15% of revs in 2002. Says current mkt conditions reflect a change in spending not a shift in the demand for bandwidth. Believes the market dynamics have been largely oversimplified as a bandwidth glut.
