sorry my friend. inflation (the cpi) hit 11% in 1974.

12% I think, but it was back to 6.9% in '75 and averaged 8% from '75 through '79 and 8.8% through '80. 4-5% real return, not counting dividends. And that's the big, slow S&P 500. The Nasdaq Composite gained 22% p.a. over the same six years. That's more than 13% p.a. of REAL return.
