Last XMAS I also bought 2 Lexar 8X cards. But that was because they were selling them at $1/MB, half to a third of what was the typical rate of the time.

I'd be curious to find out how much your friend paid. Isn't always an apples to apples comparison in that Lexar for a long time was taking a bath to sell inventory.

The other thing that confuses me is, what were your friends choices? AFAIK only Lexar labels their 'speed,' so was the alternative a Lexar 8X card?

I'm not saying no one buys on the basis of a careful review of comparative speeds (as opposed to Lexar's marketing pitch); rather, I'm saying very few do. Like Aus says, with a typical digital camera, you don't notice the difference (some here have compared tiff speeds, saying 19 seconds is so much better than 43 seconds or whatever, but IMO that's all crap because no one will put up with 19 second or 15 second or 10 second waits anyway).

IMO the memory buffer takes care of most of whatever delay is there, and besides, for my camera anyway what really causes a delay is the flash having to charge up.
