Grinder: Strategically, NextWave can become the straw the breaks the camels back in North America and, if successful, will have profound affects on the speed with which 3G is adopted globally.

But, according to NextWave Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Allen Salmasi

``We're very close, we have the bulk of (preferred stock) either fully subscribed or being negotiated right now,'' Salmasi said in an interview after making a presentation to Wall Street analysts.

``We are finishing those (debt) arrangements and...we're hoping as early as tomorrow or early next week'' to announce the agreements, he said, but declined to identify the parties involved.

It does not appear that if Qualcomm's decided to stay out of the "investment side" of Nextwave.. That the probability of the success of Nextwave would be in question... In other words.. Qualcomm's investement would not "make or break" Nextwave.. (unlike Globalstar)..

So Qualcomm is now helping fund a competitor of the other CDMA operators..

Just as Qualcomm got smart and detached themeselves from competing against Infrastructure and UT manufactures.. I think they should stay away from funding new CDMA operators in established CDMA markets..

They can invest in New CDMA markets all they want to...

Just think it's a bad idea..
