Dan, <<<Geez, maybe you guys are right about P4>>>

I understand your frustration on this matter. Who said the world is fair. I am sure that the Ace hardware people can put together a workstation using a dual Athlon 1.2 Ghz that can outperform a Dual Xeon 1.7 GHz configuration (sold by one of the major OEMs such as Compaq, Dell, or Fujitsu) on a impressive list of legacy applications.

But I am also certain that an Ace Auto Mechanic can build an automobile that can outperform the latest 740i on many auto enthusiasts benchmarks and for a lot less money.

But most professionals would rather buy something from a top tier manufacturer and have the backing of their brand's reputation and warranties.

For pretty much the same reasons, I think AMD will have a tough time in this market place with their Athlon MP.

The professional market space is a lot different than the consumer techno geek gee whiz cool but cash challenged crowd space.

Mary

Dan, Re: "http://www.aceshardware.com/Spades/read.php?article_id=45000195"

Congratulations, Dan. Looks like the Athlon MP makes a fine DIY Workstation. It's too bad AMD doesn't have any tier-1 support.

Blow Boy - "It is a shame that no first-tier OEMs have put their weight behind the dual Athlon platform. "

Probably explains the $40 drop in price of the AThWiperMP over the last 3 days !!
