Gay bashing is bad, but homophobia is sad. Fearing the sexual orientation of others is kind of a sickness, no?

I think what is often called homophobia is gay bashing. It is really hatred of homosexuals rather then a strong fear of them. Of course this hatred can be caused by such a fear but I don't think it always is and applying the term homophobic to people who do hate or bash homosexuals and sometimes to people who think homosexual activity is evil but might not hate or bash homosexuals seems to imply that all hatred, bashing, dislike, or religious disagrement with homosexuality is based on fear. I'm not saying bashing is good if it is based on something besides fear, and I hope no one gets the impression that I mean to say that. I just think the word homophobia is often misapplied.

I guess it was never need for "fear of sameness" because how many people are in fear of all things that are familiar or like themselves?
