I don't think the use of cash alone made them suspicious. It is unusual for vacation travellers to buy tickets full fare at the last minute. That is characteristic of business travellers. What sort of business in Jamaica requires posing as a tourist?

You missed my point. I had already conceded that what I often go through in the airport is nothing like a strip/cavity search.

My point is that reasonable suspicions based on racial or stereotypes are a valid way of increasing the chance of catching a suspect. If I am in charge of searching, and I only have enough resources to search 1% of the passengers, I will choose that 1% “wisely”.

In this case, there definitely was a reason to make her suspicious, and a good candidate for search. But if they did handcuff her and paraded her through the airport and “smirked” during the search, she has a legitimate case. I also do not like the whole cavity search, there is got to be a high tech and less unpleasant way.
