n fairness, I have not been reading every word of this little colloquy between you and
JLA, but I haven't seen any argument that would warrant your charge.

Sometimes, in the heat of a flame war (pun intended!), people wind up going overboard and saying things they wouldn't have said if they were thinking carefully and not responding with their base, gut instincts.

Or so I've been told. I have no personal experience of that, of course!

Anyhow, I suspect Poet may just have stuck that in more or less casually in the middle of the flame war. And now, properly IMO, it has become a separate issue, and growing into something much more than she ever intended. (After all, had she simply called him a poo-head I doubt anybody would have called her on proving what kind of poo his head was actually constructed of.)

I also suspect that in the calmer aftermath she regrets having said it, but can't find a graceful way out, and she'll be damned if she'll withdraw or apologize for it now because, after all, her pride is at stake.

Again, I have no personal knowledge of any of this. But I hear this is what sometimes happens in flame wars.

From the Federalist....

This month's "Heterophobia" Award goes to the NEA for refusing to elaborate on its "Gay and Lesbian Issues Task Force," established at the group's July convention to "reduce and eliminate intolerance and insensitivity toward gays and lesbians in our society." Responding to
public outcry, NEA president Bob Chase commented, "Some critics want the public schools to be an agent of moral doctrine, condemning children and adults when they are not in accord with biblical precepts. We believe it is impossible to create a safe haven for children -- [making them] physically safe and emotionally secure -- while condemning their beliefs." Indeed! And certainly indeed true for children with biblically based beliefs!

Since Poet refused to offer a definition, and you clearly have a position on the subject of homophobia; could you offer a definition or at least a resource. This lack of definition along with broadsweeping implications reeks of deceitful and destructive agenda.

The conclusion Poet drew (concerning a post that happened on a day I had no access to the internet) was ridiculous and unwarranted. Using her logic, you condoned her posts wherein she stated that I never added anything subtantive, etc., etc., statements which you personally know to be untrue. Under Poet's logic, you would be constrained to jump in and failing that, would you be considered a liar? I am responsible for no one's postings but my own on these boards. To insist otherwise, is disingenuous and juvenile.

I will never accept the use of that word in anything but a clinical context. Anti-gay, gay bashing, and against the gay agenda or lifestyle are all more specific and useful terms for what we ordinarily debate on SI.
