The old former status quo. Some GOP heads are very rich (the Forbes type old money Republicans) but others have more the white collar criminal mentality (the Haley Barbour type). These guys are the ones we REALLY cannot trust because they're the types who caused the S+L debacle. To win elections the GOP cleverly gets away with using old-fashioned, patriotic, macho, subliminal male white-rule, anti-government, Father Knows Best, we're the heartland Christians messages to convince a lot of working people (mainly male whites but women too) they're the good guys. They're also trying to do a real con job on minorities, pretending to be inclusive but never giving them anything but a "you can be like us if you help us" message. Then they demonize progressives as being weak-spined egghead socialists and to counter criticism they continually pose as compassionate moderates whenever they need to while their real programs and agendae are mostly 100% for the rich, corporate soft money donors and 100% against the average consumer. So far not one Republican on this thread can name anything Bush has done for the average guy. NOT ONE THING. Suprising? Not at all. He's in the process of TAKING AWAY monies from the average guy and giving it to the rich and corporations mostly in the energy sector. Bush manages to come off as caring about public education for instance while what he's really doing is minimizing it. If they had their way they'd take money out of urban schools and give it to Christian schools. And that's all about brain-washing kids into being more Republican. It harkens back to the Dixie Era where largely black and minority schools were isolated and gives white parents fincial incentives to take their kids out of mixed race schools. It's Apartheid Junior in disguise. Privitization. That's a big hidden agenda. Privatize SS, Medicare, education, government lands, etc. Grab the federal money and give it to corporations. Turn the US into one big corporation which gives hefty commissions to the GOP. Bankrupt the government, who cares? Blame it on the "big spenders". I'm sure they'd also like to find another war to fight. But where? And it's always a problem for them too needing to pay for their big military boondoggle programs while cutting taxes on the rich at the same time. This and the S+L debacle were the main contributors to the giant deficits Reagan abd Bush Sr. ran up. This Star Wars idea is really insane because right now there's no enemy for it to defend us against and it's VERY expensive. It probably won't even work. And funding it means cutting all kinds of much more necessary programs people need. Also, the rest of the world doesn't trust us now because they know Bush is lying. Let's be honest. This isn't really a defensive program it's an offensive program. It's the Death Star. Maybe that might be helpful someday to zap other countries from space but right now it's very unsettling. If we could afford it maybe but obviously it's an extravagence and possibly a huge boondoggle like the Sgt. York missile system which never worked and was a big write-off. You can imagine the lobbyists working for Star Wars and all the money they've given the GOP. They stay out of sight but they're there trying to loot our treasury. Same thing with Big Energy but even worse.
