They probably had PIII850 chips in 1995.
And probably curtailed the release cycle,
In order to have people keep buying new ones every 6 months.

i don't think so- re this example. this stuff has become more doable and cheaper over time.

You said it... remember those wireless devices to be put in elevators so you could watch the price of your stock as you went from floor to floor?

Oh, and dividends... what a novel idea.

Buy stocks with credit cards.

I personally know someone who did just that.
Maxed out 4 credit cards and put 100% of it on RMBS at 65 (pre split). Rode it to 400 and did not even bother to take enough out to pay off his cards!

Rode it down to 200 and doubled up on margin. Managed to borrrow more $ to meet margin call at 133.

Rode it back to nearly 500 (120+ post split for the rest of this story). And still did not take any off but was now deeper in debt.

On a fall from 120 to 40 went more on margin and had a last chance to get out at about 65 or so I think. More margin calls at 33 where a friend bailed him out.

Right before the huge plunge from 32 I begged him over the phone to at least sell enough to get off margin. At that point he would have been deep in the hole and had nothing to show for it and would still owe on his cards (thanks to margin).

Two days later RMBS plunged to 15.
He borrowed more (from a friend) to get off margin Finally.
On the rise to 20, he called me up telling me what a fool I was to not get back in at these bargain prices. At 25 perhaps (and it did get back there a couple times) he had one last chance to clear much of his debt but he would not give up his RMBS. Kept arguing with me about discounted cash flows.

Now deep deep in debt to friends as well as credit cards with RMBS at $7. He needs a a 200% gain to get back to his initial borrowed stake. That would not be enough to pay off his cards or loans.

My money management has sucked for most of two years but I believe this takes the cake. I know for a fact that it is true cause this guy kept calling me asking him what to do and I kept telling him to sell his RMBS.

PS. I would likely be broke without RMBS myself. It gave me a huge cusion to lose before I could find my ass with both hands. Lost all my gains back from a huge ride in RMBS but managed to keep most of my original stake.

M

Great example of mania speculation, guy and his indoor pool.

Indoor pool!?! This poor sap will be lucky if he can join the local YMCA with what he's got left. "Com'on CORV" ? Sounds like somone at the horsetrack...In fact, before he had an internet connection, I bet he was....! Too perfect.

I am so incredibly UN diversified right now. I do not think I will sleep for a week. Buying my new house is now riding on this baby. By spring I will either have a much much better house than I could have afforded or I will be staying in my Condo for a little bit longer. Come on CORV, I want an indoor pool!!!
