X, on children's books and movies, have you seen/read "The Princess Diaries"? My 10 year old loves the book, she's read it 2 times. I thought the movie was ok, good casting and performances, excellent glossy cinema production, nice SF scenery, but in general obvious signs of Hollywood meeting storyline and production line writing. There were a lot of adults sans children in the theater to see Julie Andrews, though.

It seems as though there has been a little burst of really well-written children's and teen books in the past few years. I'm looking forward to grandchildren so I can indulge in that great pleasure of reading aloud.

My younger daughter has finished "Catcher in the Rye" (and loved it) and is now plugging away through "The Old Man and the Sea".
