I didn't realize until now how big of a role NextWave could play in Qualcomm's grand scheme. In theory, the soon to be built NW network could carry 3G data services to the customers of not only Verizon but Cingular and other non-CDMA carriers. This would require the non-CDMA carriers to offer multimode GSM/CDMA2000 devices which would most likely contain Q's ASICs and produce a royalty. Qualcomm would therefore expand their market to include all of the carriers in the US without having to wait for all of the carriers to build-out their 3G networks.
