Dear Steve Lee: Well, to me the two major industries that can keep us out of a major recession may be Housing and Autos. Far as I know Housing still holding up well but autos falling off. Lower rates will prop up these industries. Both employ huge amounts of people and resources directly and indirectly so they are very important to the economy. From my experience major corporations make their capital expeditures programs based on perceived demand for their output, not on interest rates so lowering or raising probably doesnt have the effect (at least short term) you might think. Since AG destroyed the consumers IRA's and 401k's he owes it to them to at least make their debt manageable with lower rates. (gg)
Incidentally, can you believe my ENTIRE IRA is in a money market and was BEFORE the stock crash so I am sitting pretty personally on the retirement side, so this isnt sour grapes talk. JDN

steve, i think that parts of tech will stay in a recession/depression for years to come and other will emerge will emerge strong withi accelerating revenue and earnings.

this is overcapacity in pc's in the fabs and box makers. there is still a shakeout occuring that could take another year or two. why in the world do you need 3 box makers making the exact same product? you don't. they desperately need to differentiate themselves from each other but the felons from redmond will not let them. these convicts in redmond are actually hindering a tech comback with monopolistic practices. the only thing the box makers have to sell on is price. not a good business to be in, imo.

companies that will lead us into the new internet world with innovative products will prosper. so you are right on one hand that overall tech is screwed for the next couple of years but if you pick the winners, now, you should see some very positive rev. and earnings growth for these companies. since i am posting a sunw thread i beieve that sunw will be one of those winner starting with a slight pickup in q4.

in essence, i think that you cannot go with index funds for a couple of years but pick individual stocks that are going to lead us with technology innovations going forward.

i think the java has kicked in, lol.

rocky.
