Mill was a smart man. Interesting words, Neo. Ones which we should all take the time to read. Thanks.

Thank you posting the Mill piece on Liberty, Thought and Discussion, Neo..

>>Yet whatever mischief arises from their use, is greatest when they are employed against the comparatively defenceless; and whatever unfair advantage can be derived by any opinion from this mode of asserting it, accrues almost exclusively to received opinions. The worst offence of this kind which can be committed by a polemic, is to stigmatize those who hold the contrary opinion as bad and immoral men. <<

When I read this, I thought of Billy Dale. He was vindicated in the courts, but of course the question remained...

"where do I go to regain my reputation"

As you know he was the victim of baseless accusations, accusations that went to the his core values, ie...basically he was accused of being a thief.

It's just too easy to impugn the integrity of others without any real consequence for the accuser.

Though found "innocent"..... vindicated in the courts...the accusation will always be attached to him (and "questions" in the minds of some).

Character assassination is indeed ugly business.
