Bush and especially Cheney were in close consultation with the energy companies (and OPEC) which pulled off the 9-month price gougings. Did they ever say a word about relieving prices on the consumer? Never. Why? Because they wanted them high. As high as possible. Why? Because then they could scare us all into thinking their 1900 new power plants and "drill everywhere" plan was a good one. And ocne passed it would mean windfall profits to oil and power companies for many years, much of it public money by the way. Bush-Cheney are already asking for 33 billion tax breaks to big oil (as they report record profits already) but more breaks and free federal land giveaways are included in the power plant offerings. Bottomline, we pay 50-100 billion to Bush-cheney's best friends on top of the 100 billion they just gouged from us so that they can go ruin our environment. Because notice Bush-Cheney just WEAKENED coal emision/pollution standards, they don't even think about cleaner fuels. No, just more pollution and a looting and raping of hundreds of our most pristine wildland reserves and monuments. Now you see why they're not for Kyoto. It's not the economy, that's a huge lie. Germany's reducing emissions 21% without one job lost, they report. No it's not the economy it's they own greed and backward thinking. And these "sins" don't even include the monster one which is the creation of the energy "crisis" in the first place in league with OPEC which scared a hell of a lot more than 527 people in Florida into voting for them who wouldn't have otherwise. So they also stole the election with this massive fraud and gouging campaign. Criminal. Let's hope Leiberman's investation in the Senate can prove some of these allegations. We need reform at the very top. Including campaign finance reform.
