IMO, if you can't be
constructive, don't say it. I realize, of course, that not everyone agrees.

Well, I have to admit that a thrill of pleasure goes through me when I read things, even if apocryphal, as:

A woman once told Winston Churchill, with scorn in her voice, "Mr. Churchill, you're drunk."

He replied: "That's true. I'm drunk, and you're ugly. But in the morning I'll be sober."

Not constructive, I agree. But such a fitting comeback...

Then there's the famous, probably also apocryphal line, attibuted, I think, to Dorothy Parker, but I could be wrong.
When she and a lady companion got to a door the companion opened it, saying snidely "age before beauty." DP sailed through it tossing off "and pearls before swine."

If we had that kind of invective here on BR, IMO the wit would be worth the societal pollution you speak of in other posts.

Well, sometimes when you feel contempt, contempt is what you communicate. I could not answer politely if I did not feel it. JLA
