Russia is refusing to bend on missile defence. Also, everyone in the world knows we can't afford it and the Senate will vote it down. So Bush is acting unilaterally as usual and missile defence will go the same way as Faith-based, just another big mistake finally recognized as one.

What I heard was the Bush cronies were offering Putin "sweetheart" deals behind the scenes for him to capitulate, like giving them 15 billion to allow us to dump our nuke fuel waste in Siberia, from all those 1900 new power plants Cheney wants, remember? That was a Cheney idea since no state in their right mind wants a nuke fuel dump polluting their underground water supplies and leaking into their rivers. Cheney would love to pollute our rivers for the sake of a few nuke plants his cronies can build and make billions on but Nevada won't have it so he had to go offering deals to Siberia.

You can bet that oil price rises might have also been part of an offer since Russia has vast oil reserves but no cash. Some of this is speculation but in the end Putin rejected the offers (apparently).

Frankly right now I trust our White House no more than I trust Putin which is a very sad statement. I'm a patriot but I do believe crooked minds have taken over the White House.

The cover-up on the energy gougings alone will amount to lies upon lies upon lies. Just watch as the Senate is forced to pubpoena Cheney's energy papers and he will continue to stonewall hiding behind "the constitution." As if our forefathers wrote the constitution to protect thieves and gougers. If Clinton had refused to hand over papers Republicans would have been howling with outrage. Now the shoe is on the other foot. Wonder how they'll react.
