Stan, Thanks for the kind words. While I certainly consider myself "young" at 46, I first became interested in the market earlier than many, as I entered college. The countless mistakes of the past have certainly provided an education.

Today's investor has advantages that we never had. The Net has changed everything IMO. Information access is simply incredible. However, the pain of losing one's hard-earned money coupled with the satisfaction of building assets though long-term investing, have been important experiences that I believe would be difficult to duplicate without actually living them.

OT - The drive must have been great. I was thinking of doing the same thing. In fact, I called a local specialty car rental agency yesterday morning with the thought of renting a Vette for the weekend. I backed off when they quoted the weekend rate at $350 a day. (I ended up working in the yard instead <g> In any case, it was a beautiful day to be outside)

Sounds like fun! I took my '94 Vette (Pictures suite101.com ) up Old La Honda two weekends ago, hiked the redwoods at "Heritage Grove", ate a late lunch at Duarts in Pescadero, drove up the coast a bit and back via 84 to home in Los Altos. BEAUTIFUL drive, hiking and good food.

Yesterday I went windsurfing at Coyote Point near the SF Airport. We had two kite-sailors there. Many are expert windsurfers that were looking for a new sport to master. Just amazing to see the big air they get. More kite-sail near the San Mateo Bridge just north near the driving range. Some of them there are good friends. THere is a hiking/bike path that you can take to watch up close and personal if interested and I think they are starting to give lessons. If interested in lessons, people can email me and I'll tell you where.

Now I am going to go work in the garden after my bagel and coffee. The weather has just been beautiful! We've had spring all summer and this is why it is so expensive to live here... the weather and varried things to do so close to home!

Stan, OT *** sailing
I went sailing on a friend's trimaran yesterday and it was warm and not too windy. We sailed close to the PacBell stadium where a baseball game was in progress. There, in a cove, many powerboats and kajaks could be seen waiting and hoping a ball would be hit into the Bay. I read retrieval of such balls gets quite competitive, but no boats have been sunk yet.
