Re: some theories as to why there isn't a single 1.33GHz or 1.4GHz Athlon being sold

Whatever the reason, it's probably the same one that applies to the lack of 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, and 1.8 P4s.

The single 1.6 listed is from a build to order ad, and the ad actually headlined a 1.4 P4, not a 1.6, but since it could be upgraded to a 1.6 for $49, it seemed more reasonable to list the machine that way (I don't list all the permutations that are often presented in bto ads, there is generally one configuration that is the best value, and that's the one I present).

Celeron has a huge cost advantage over Duron
My guess is that there is still some old Celeron stock being liquidated. By the way, you're confusing the cost with the selling price. We know from component costs that there is no significant cost advantage for Celeron, anymore. There does seem to be a selling price advantage for Duron.

but it's another thing entirely to have the volumes listed of each model, and I'm guessing that would probably tell a different story.

I had a chance to swing by Best Buy and CompUSA yesterday, and I was disappointed by what I saw. One had to hunt to even see the AMD models. The ratio in the ads might be favorable to AMD, but once you are in the store, its overwhelmingly Intel offerings.

On a positive note, FWIW, I have been keeping an eye on the offerings at ubid.com. About a month ago, HP Pavillions with 1.0 - 1.1 GHz Athlons were consistently going at $509-$579 range. Now, the same machines are consistently going for just over $600. Perhaps its a small signal of firming demand, perhaps the ubid audience is weighted heavily by college-going crowd.

Dear Wanna_BWM, "why Celeron has a huge cost advantage over Duron"

You are apparently confusing "cost" with "price" :)

Prosperous trading,
