Not all corporations are/were that concerned about the energy prices -- especially some high tech firms who said reliability is far more key to their cost structure (huge losses possible from going off line).

Your points are all well taken and I agree. I didn't feel quite write when I posted the response conceding corporations make decisions based on the cost of juice.

Price doesn't seem to be a controlling factor for individuals nor business..large or small. Certainly some businesses and individuals consider price a primary factor but I doubt they approach a majority.

A few of additional points on individual use:

Individuals are insulated from the market structure. Very few consumers have time of use (TOU) meters. Lots of home owners have level pay plans that are adjusted once per year. Without pricing feed back market pricing has little effect on consumption.

Renters are insulated from electric rates if their landlord pays the utilities.

I have always tried to be conservative with electric usage. I have been ineffective convincing the rest of the family to see things my way. Now all of a sudden they are turning lights and the TV off when they leave the room. It has nothing to do with the cost of the juice.

Cheney's a fossil from a bygone era. His refusal to just tell the GAO who formed his energy policy is a glaring spotlight on his wrongheaded top down mentality.

I began questioning the value of the top down approach when the Bush administration fired the cartographer for posting a map that did not reflect the views of The Top. I find dissent in government refreshing. Presenting a united front in government doesn't sound like democracy to me. IMO it is time for the the republican party to undrape itself of the American flag until they can learn to accept and promote dissenting views.
