On principle I don't think it is the government's business to not
allow us to consume certain chemicals. I might let practicality override my
principles in some circumstances


What circumstances? Assuming there is adequate information about the drugs and their effects available so that users can make informed choices.

I hear that argument a lot, but it strikes me as a throwing in the towel more than anything. I'd like to explore different ways of fighting illegal importing of drugs and changing the levels of punitiveness of the laws about use and distribution.
