In my post I said we had killed "many thousands of sharks last year". The actual number is much greater....over 100 million.
"Many thousands" is very believable but over 100 million?!? What is your source for this information?

Tim, John Beimer of the Associated Press...it was in my original post. The Seattle Times picked up the story in one of this week's newpaper. In addition to be hunted as an aphrodisiac, sharks are eaten by peoples in some countries while many are caught accidently in fishing nets along with dophins or are killed for sport.

According to CNN today, there have been a total of 980 recorded human deaths resulting from shark attacks since 1580 when they first started keeping records. In the meantime we kill more than 100 million per year. Its that imbalance that worries me....are impact on this world is very great.

On a Discovery channel program on sharks the other night they said that 10 people a year are killed world wide by sharks and 10 million sharks a year are killed.
