Another by Edwin Church ...

Rainy Season in the Tropics

thinker.org

Used to see this from 3 rooms off in the distance down the corridor of the San Francisco De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park and always drawn like a little moth....

Too bad the actual picture is not so dark and gloomy
as this rendition on the website , is....that rainbow
spans over 7 1/2 ft!

;-)

PS : I once saw this show on American House Masterpieces
and one segment was on the home Edwin Church had
and created lived/worked in...

and the artist touch and perspect was in every facet
of that incredibly beautiful place . What a way
to live
huh ?

And right next to Edwin Church's "Rainy Day In the Tropics"
at the De Young , they had hanging nearby
the original Maxfield Parrish

"DayBreak" ...
allwall.com

(and every young man's heart was passionately stirred , dreaming of
wise and playful golden nymphs at dawn...in another place another time )

~Oh love , could thou and I conspire
....to grasp this sorry set things entire
would we not shatter it to bits
....and remould it nearer the playful hearts desire ~

*** Back in those days they had just finished lighting
up the world with electricity and the electric
light bulb...pretty exciting times I guess,
sans petty little world wars & devestating
political nationalistic rivalries <gg>

Full compliment of Parrish's work here

hi susie...

I just found your thread on the hot list. Thanks for initiating the topic!

I had the opportunity to see the Homer Winslow retrospective when it was the the Met. . This piece (which is not especially representative of his normal style, imo) was unquestionably my favorite.
