From a purely scientific path it seems you could argue that the unique human DNA make up leads to self awareness upon sufficient growth and development of the organism and that it is no a particular strand that takes responsibility. I actually support this argument to some degree except that I "believe" there is another aspect to self awareness that is soul based and this is not demonstrable scientifically. Good luck with this. I hope everyone stays focused. It is such a good question.
