Perhaps I'm the last person on earth to find this web site, but I just did and thought it interesting enough to share. I discovered it via an article in today's Post on GPS.

confluence.org

<<The goal of the project is to visit each of the latitude and longitude integer degree intersections in the world, and to take pictures at each location. The pictures and stories will then be posted here.>>

I was also struck by "the neurological view." I don't know that I've seen that before, at least not expressed that way. There's a attractive symmetry to the beginning and end of brain waves.

When the heart beat was previously considered the defining event--that was used both pre and post natal as part of the same type of argument.

I also find it useful. Sagan belived it was the most pertinent place to draw the line in terms of science. If it was a matter strictly of science, I would agree with him.

In terms of which life to save...exactly. When people make loud pronouncements based on their own authority, they must realize that beliefs do not exist in a vacuum. A person DOES have basic human rights. Whatever we define as a person will be a person until we define a person differently. Language simply expresses choices we have made about categorizing our perceptions of reality. If an egg IS a person--then it is entitled to the same basic human rights as are all persons.
