I suspect your views and XXX's may be aligned in many instances. That could account for a part of it.

I've been insulted by plenty of people without getting particularly upset at the name-callers. I've been called a commie, a coward, an idiot, a child abuser, a moron, and more other things than I can think of. Hardly anything to get uptight over.

What do these reactions mean to you, other than that someone may disagree, sometimes vehemently and without tact??

Response to provocation is in my view a key indicator of maturity. We can rise above or sink below. Our choice. Sometimes it's good to have abrasive people around; the reactions to them are very helpful things.

I don't mind abrasiveness, even directed at me, all that much, unless it is coupled with stupidity or with sloppy thought incoherently expressed. Those things do, I confess, irritate me, but I never noticed X being stupid or inarticulate, even when I disagree with her.

She is also a good judge of movies, which, even if you dislike everything about her, gives her at least one more redeeming feature than many on SI.
