Intel Announces Family of Dialogic Brand Integrated Telephony Boards New Multi-Function Products Enable Efficient, Cost-Effective Development of Converged Communications Solutions
PARSIPPANY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 20, 2001-- Intel® Corporation today announced the first two products in its Dialogic® brand Integrated (DI) family of multifunction telephony boards that are designed specifically for small- to medium-sized enterprise switching applications, including server-based PBXs and contact centers.
Equipped with a rich and targeted mix of telephone network interfaces and media processing resources, the DI series enables developers and resellers to create more efficient and complete system solutions that offer increased functionality at a lower cost to end users. The highly integrated DI products reduce the number of boards and server PCI slots used in the solution, thereby reducing the overall system cost.
Current server-based business communications switching systems rely on an assortment of boards, each dedicated to a specific task. The DI series integrates the resources and interfaces required for these systems on a single board, or smaller set of boards. This integration helps reduce the telephony board cost of building these systems by up to 30 percent. In addition, the DI series is the first to offer multifunction telephony boards that feature fax resources integrated on a single board along with the telephone trunk and station connectivity, and advanced voice and conference resources.
``By implementing the DI series, developers and VARs are able to deliver solutions that provide more functionality for less money while using less hardware,'' said Jeff Wilbur, Intel director of marketing, Enterprise Communications Solution Group. ``The efficient mix of telephone network interfaces and media processing resources integrated on each board yields an overall system cost benefit and will ultimately deliver more value to the end user.''
The first boards in the DI product family to be released will include a trunk and station combination board and a station interface only board. The trunk and station board (Model DI/0408-LS-A) is a single slot switching solution for building a complete server-based PBX or contact center starting at four trunks and eight stations on a single board. An optimized mix of voice, conference and fax resources is included onboard, along with Caller ID, message waiting indicator control, and a music on-hold audio port. Four fail-over circuits ensure basic telephone service in the event of power loss. The solution can be scaled to allow multiple boards in a single chassis.
The new station interface board (Model DI/SI32) offers 32 station interfaces with dedicated tone, call control, conference and voice resources. Optimized for smaller installations, additional DI/SI station interface boards with 16 and 24 ports will be available in the near future.
``The Dialogic Integrated products from Intel are truly an exciting and important advance for server-based communications solutions,'' says Henrik Thome, president and CEO of Envox, a leading producer of communications development software. ``This is the first time we have seen such versatility in hardware. These products not only accommodate multiple network protocols and communications products, but they make combining or migrating between them technically simple and extremely cost-efficient.''
The DI series is based on Dialogic DM3(TM) Mediastream architecture, and currently supported by Dialogic System Software and Software Development Kit Version 5.1 for Windows NT* and Windows 2000*. For added flexibility, the DI series will also be supported by a future release of Dialogic CT Media(TM) server software for Windows 2000.
The DI series boards are key components used in the Intel® Converged Communications Platform, the purpose-built, application-ready platform for small- to medium-sized businesses.
Developers incorporate these boards in their own integrated systems or as part of the Intel Converged Communications Platform based on industry standard CT Media(TM) software.
The new DI series, when completed over the next year, will deliver a range of analog, digital and voice-over Internet protocol (VoIP) switching solutions, complete with the resources and interfaces necessary to build enterprise-converged communications systems that scale from 12 to more than 300 ports in a single chassis.
Pricing and Availability
The first DI series will be generally available in September through a network of telephony distributors such as Catalyst, Alliance and Cygcom; and datacom distributors such as Tech Data and Ingram Micro. The boards are initially targeted at developers and integrators, and include a bundle of accessories, including station loop and ring current power supply, and station/trunk interface adapters. Additional product information on the DI series can be found at intel.com.
