McJimbo - Re: "Simply an indication that the PC business is contracting and they are tightening their belts.

And guess what CPU manufacturer keeps getting DUMPED when PC makers are cutting costs?

Yep - the wonderful AthWiper-maker.

Makes you wonder - when the the company that gets DUMPED is the one supplying the CHEAPO CPUs !!!

Simply an indication that the PC business is contracting and they are tightening their belts.

Agreed!

Too costly to carry 2 platforms in this area.

Also agreed... but it could hurt AMD in the long and short run as I don't think any Tier 1 is going to dump Intel in favor of AMD.

I suspect MicronPC is having a hard time making Payments to Micron Technology.

Does anyone know what the specifics of that arrangement are???

They have also become a non factor at retail.

Define non-factor? Are you taking storefront sales or direct?

MicronPC may be one of the first PC casualties.

If things don't turn around soon, there could indeed be a culling of the vendors. I'm not so worried about the IBM's, HP's, Compaq's, and Dells as I am about the Gateways and Microns... Competition has generally been very good for the PC market as a whole... but we're getting down to the point where the competitors are going to start feeding on each other.

I'm still hoping for a good seasonal uptick and recovery early next year. Something needs to happen to break the cycle. The stock market is down because spending is down... of course, spending is down because so many people got burned in the stock market. Though a lot of people seem unwilling to admit it, I honestly think the vast majority of this pullback is directly due to the failure of the dot.bombs... When that bubble burst, a lot of demand and wealth evaporated at the same time.
