fyo, I wonder if this means that the AMD parts are more uniform than the intel ones?
Let us say that a transistor dies if it goes over 110C(an arbitrary temperature) and once one dies the CPU does not work. Intel can run their CPUs at 62 before one bites the dust. AMD runs them at 92?
Now perhaps the Intel ones still have those notches and the worst case spacing and size of a feature could make them more prone to fail. Makes them run faster, though, so a tradeoff is operating.

fyo, that's awesome info. Irrefutable evidence that Intel's process was sucking wind last year. They were caught with their pants down. They may be making the same mistake again by not going to SOI. Unfortunately due to AMD's marketing ineptitude Intel made out ok.
