Yeah, who knows. One general economic factor that continues to bother me is the never-ending string of layoff reports. A quick 5-minute scan of headlines since yesterday revealed: "Fujitsu to Axe 16,400 Jobs in IT Slump", "Ford CEO Says More Job Cuts Likely", "Ames Stores File for Bankruptcy", "Korn/Ferry to cut almost 500 jobs, post loss", "Agilent to axe 4,000 workers, posts Q3 loss", "J.P. Morgan Chase plans to cut 8,000 jobs-WSJ."

Layoff announcements are a forward looking business indicator as far as I'm concerned and have the negative side benefit of impacting future consumer spending.
