John Fowler:

"Non-profit companies will get creamed in this environment. AMD needs to make money on a sustained basis, getting valued on potential doesn't work anymore."

I assume the same non-profit statement applies to INTC? and if getting valued on potential doesn't work anymore, why is INTC still above $20?

Re: trying to look for a way out of AMD's current dead end situation.

Do a search on pricewatch for Xeon 1.7 and Athlon MP 1.2, and consider all the discussion that has been going on regarding SOI.

AMD may be making a push to sell two CPUs, instead of one, to potential buyers of performance desktops.

SOI may also give AMD a major advantage in portables for the next 18 months.

It may be that, now that both companies have pretty much ruined the desktop market, AMD is focusing on notebooks and SMP systems and letting Intel have as much of the single processor desktop market as it is willing to low-bid for.

re: One assumption you are making is that AMD would lose 50% of their business if they raised their relative prices.
that was just to illustrate the point
re: The exaggerated result demonstrates the error in your calculation.
care to correct me or the statement that I am wrong is enough
