Anyone who issues a press release with a letterhead that sounds like a company can be an "analyst" these days. No licenses, no qualifications, just toss out an opinion and see if someone notices. Various SI personalities do it from time to time, trying to ape the big firms.

A lot of folks think they are analysts or desperately want to be analysts. Why, I have no idea. The profession seems to range from the tedious and trivial to outright deception and hustling.

But it pays well - so people want in.

My solution remains simply to ignore the analysts and most of the stocks they cover. Can't screw up what you can't reach.
