You're correct. Intel demonstrated McKinley on a modified 460GX chipset, which is what they are currently using for Itanium. With the demonstration in March, one would think that McKinley will be ready before the chipsets (with the exception of Pluto from the article, which seems to be early). Anand has some more information here concerning the McKinley demonstration at Spring IDF. He also has an early preview of the Intel i870 chipset, which will be used for McKinley when it launches.
