If Excite@Home goes belly up, users of the company's Web sites--most prominently the Excite.com portal--are likely to be left
out in the cold. But the 3.7 million customers of the firm's high-speed access business will undoubtedly continue to receive
service.
After all, AT&T clearly still views Excite@Home's broadband business as a vital part of its AT&T Broadband and is unlikely to
allow the firm to collapse completely. But as an independent entity, Excite@Home looks like history. And with it, much of the
excitement and mania of the early Internet is also gone.
