<We suspect that Nokia may have paid QUALCOMM up-front license fees of as much as $50 million.>

A bargain for NOK considering all the grief they caused Q!

Fed cuts rates by 25 basis points
By Rachel Koning

For the seventh time this year, the Federal Reserve lowered its key overnight interest rates Tuesday to stimulate the lackluster economy. The central bank's Federal Open Market Committee sliced the federal funds rate by 25 basis points to 3.5 percent, the lowest since 1994. At the same time, the Fed cut the discount rate to 3 percent. The major risk to the economy remains weakness, the FOMC said, a hint that more rate cuts could be coming at the October, November or December meetings.

Texas Instruments. We don't believe that TI will pay a
royalty to QCOM on any CDMA chipsets TI sells.

I remember that from the IPR swap. Though the handset manufacturers eventually pay a royalty, I would think TI selling royalty-free chipsets could put a sizeable dent in Q's sales some day. TI folks are no dopes. I hope the IPR QCOM received was worth it.

Nokia. We suspect that Nokia may have paid a very high
price for having waited so long to sign a 3G CDMA license with QCOM.
