Dan3- If SOI really is a benefit, AMD could be getting ready to make a move for >50% market share next year.

Ahhh... hope springs eternal in Dan3's breast.

Dan, Re: "AMD could be planning just about anything at Gresham (including .09 copper SOI on 300mm wafers for next year)"

Fantastic. I'll inform the Intel thread that they better sell of their shares before AMD masters 90nm SOI manufacturing on 300mm wafers, and goes for >50% MSS. And just imagine: all this before they even get 130nm ramped up on bulk silicon. Amazing. <ggg>

Gresham Manufacturing Division

In keeping with the company's commitment to the U.S. market, FMI recently expanded its wafer-fabrication facility in Gresham, Oregon. The new 545,000-square-foot GMD plant, which opened in 1997, provides twices the capacity of the original facility. The plant processes 8-inch wafers using 0.22-micron technology, providing advanced products for the global market.

Keep in mind I'm not sure the whole facility has tool's in it.

I was told the expansion (Fab 2), that was recently completed, was 10 times cleaner then Fab 1 (old flash fab at Gresham)

<Maybe they're just helping out Fujitsu.>

I am sure there are reasons beyond nobility!

<Gresham is more of a compus complex than a single FAB, total capacity when the current expansion is complete is 30,000 WPW (about 5 times the size of Dresden) but part of that capacity is lower quality clean room suitable only for commodity flash, part is high quality 8" wafer clean room space similar to Dresden, and part is supposed to be used for 300mm (12" wafer) lines to be brought up next year (scheduled to go 12" in 2002).>

Where did you get this info? Any links?

<If SOI really is a benefit, AMD could be getting ready to make a move for >50% market share next year.>

Just 50%? How disappointing?
