I made it plain to the children that whatever we own will be theirs when the time comes, even if we their parents are not dead yet. So it's for their best interests to continue with the mortgage payments. Actually, I collect from $200 to $400 from them for "rent" with the understanding that we'll invest the money collected for their future. My wife and me believe in giving slowly their inheritances while we're still alive. 3 years and 2 months from now at age 62 (my wife is older than me by just 1 day), we could live comfortably in the country of our birth with just Social Security money.
