We tend to view the market in isolation, but as Terry pointed out earlier, it is THE leading indicator. A bear market rarely affects just the net worth of investors; it affects their jobs, their salaries, the value of their homes, their buying power, almost anything financially or economically related. To be unaffected by a bear market, you'd have to be a full-time trader who's short and lives in an apartment with a short-term lease. There are few who genuinely wish for such an event. JMHO...
