Bill- When you say crash, irreversible or does the crash stop the clock and it then cools down?

Reversible, an 80C junction temperature should not cause any damage to the chip. Either the PC will behave erratically and the user will turn it off, or there might be a thermal control system which will handle things more gracefully.
