Fyo, Re: "AMD claimed they shipped 250k 1.4GHz Athlons in Q2. Remember, this chip wasn't introduced until early June, so it's pretty clear that the distribution of sold Athlons is weighted unusually heavily towards the higher speed grades."

Yet AMD also claimed that they sold the majority of their CPUs in June. So at the very most, that corresponds to the 1.4GHz part being 6.4% of their CPU product line, or twice that percentage if you just consider the Athlon product line. In all fairness, it was the first month of launch, but at the same time, I wouldn't consider 13% at the top bin out of the ordinary for AMD. It will probably be 20-25% this quarter.

fyo,

"so it's pretty clear that the distribution of sold Athlons is weighted unusually heavily towards the higher speed grades."

That corresponds to my current observations from the bestseller lists of K&M Elektronik. The Athlon C 1300, 1400 and 1200 are not only on top of the processor top 10 list but have been for weeks on the general top 10 list, too. Especially the Athlon C 1300 has been the number 2 or 3 of the general bestseller list for weeks.

On the other hand, the Durons are doing quite poorly.

Just as an example, I give you the actual list. Please notice that it has been almost unchanged for weeks now. So there is a strong indication of quite heavy sales of AMD's top speed processors.

Processor bestseller list of August, 21:

1 AMD ATHLON C K7 1333 Thunderbird FSB266
2 AMD ATHLON C K7 1400 Thunderbird FSB266
