Don: I was about to pen you a note to simply comment on the truly remarkable decline in bookings during this latest contraction. I was going to make my case that this pullback really is/was different by noting that in the 7 months from Oct., 2000 to April, 2001 bookings were down 75%. I was going to use up my daily ration of exclamation marks while otherwise babbling about 'disbelief' that an entire, mature industry, no matter how cyclical, has EVER experienced this degree of revenue loss within the span of such a short (6-12 month) window. However, as I was working through a bowl of Trix while composing said note, I had some extra moments to look at the entire bookings table. Should we be surprised at the level of decline in bookings from Oct., 1997 to Sept., 1998? 75% Exclamation mark. Thus, the aforementioned intended note to you will not be sent. Consider this message a note-not.
