Nice 100% overclock of a 1GHZ Athlon (to 2GHZ)

muropaketti.com

The page starts out describing overclocking a 1.33GHZ Athlon to 2.2GHZ

I found this site searching for P4 overclocks - there basically don't seem to be any. Is P4 too expensive for anyone to overclock? Are there some speedpath issues?

It's pretty strange that Intel is releasing P4 2GHZ while the few LN2 overclocks I've seen at Bunny's etc. are barely higher than that.

Dan, Re: "But while production capacity will triple, the new plan involves a more exponential increase in capital expenditures. Fujitsu's original expansion plan to boost Gresham's fab output to 10,000 wafers a month only called for a $60 million investment."

This may be the line that is giving people the most trouble. AMD can't afford "exponential expenditures". If the fab remains at 10,000 wspm, and AMD gets half, that works out to about 1250 wspw. This is plenty to satisfy AMD's flash needs, and perhaps justify the investment, but not enough to make them undisputed CPU rulers of the world (assuming they could even use any extra space for CPU expansion).

Thanks. I can understand AMD's move a little better now.
